The programmes of New Land Use Policy (NLUP) has a major impact in fishery development sector for attaining its targeted goal due to the fact that NLUP is the major targeted contributor towards creation of new water body in the state. Under the programme the Department is entrusted with covering 3000 families over a period of 5 years in fish farming, creation of infrastructure for self-sufficiency in fish seed, setting up of marketing linkage and capacity building of farmers through training and demonstration. The programme is committed to generate self-employment to 3000 families to offer a gross income of Rs.1.75 lakh per family at a estimated BCR of 2.56. The scheme is further committed to bring in an additional production of 4900 M.T of fish and 125 M.T of Giant Freshwater Prawn. The gross value of the produce of the additional production is estimated at Rs.5250.00 lakh.

Under NLUP, the Department is undertaking the following farm base activities other than infrastructure development.

  • Semi Intensive Aquaculture.
  • Polyculture of carps and prawns


The highlights of the targets under NLUP are as follows:-

Covering 2500 families under Semi Intensive Aquaculture and 500 families under Polyculture of carps and prawns, with an estimated cost of Rs.3000.00 lakh over a period of 5(five) years.
